现在你应该清楚明白，复兴是神一项超然的工作，在一大群人中产生超然的果效。这项领悟十分重要，否则我们就会堕入一般人的见解，把教会任何不寻常的活动都称为「复兴」。

让我们一起来思考一下五旬节那天有甚么事情发生？我们首先看到的是超越寻常的现象──「一阵大风吹过」和「舌头如火燄显现出来」。几乎所有历史上的复兴都有某些超越寻常的情况出现。在1859年阿尔斯特（Ulster）复兴出现时，人们倒在街上和田里，躺着不动多个小时。那是一个多么令人震惊的景象！甚至许多前来观看的人由于见证了神的工作而悔改相信了神。

五旬节当天还有不平凡的讲道──彼得的一次讲道令三千人进入神的国度；而今天，有的时候需要三千堂讲道才能令一个人进入神的国度！在复兴中，讲员经常会经历一股奇特的和不寻常的力量穿越他们所传讲的信息。我的祖父在1904年威尔斯的大复兴中信主；他告诉我当时很多牧者都有一种全新的口才和能力，令那些经常在听他们讲道的会众感到非常f意外。你可能也听过一些挺有力的讲道，但是我告诉你，这些讲道若与复兴再临时所听到的作比较，就简直是不值一提；那些只是一些简单的语句，但却充满能力，因为它们是出自被圣灵燃点的心灵。

By now it should be clear that revival is an extraordinary work of God producing extraordinary results among a large group of people. It is vitally important that we see it in these terms, otherwise we will fall for the popular notion of calling any unusual activity of the Church by the name "revival".

Consider with me what the Day of Pentecost produced. First, it produced extraordinary physical manifestations - "a rushing mighty wind" and "divided tongues, as of fire". Almost every revival in history contains accounts of extraordinary physical manifestations. In the 1859 Ulster revival people would fall to the ground in the streets or the fields and would lie there motionless for hours. So astonishing were the physical phenomena that crowds gathered just to see these manifestations take place and many were converted as they witnessed God at work.

The Day of Pentecost also produced extraordinary preaching. One sermon preached by Peter resulted in 3,000 souls coming into the kingdom. Sometimes, today, it takes 3,000 sermons to bring one soul into the kingdom! In revival, preachers experience a strange and extraordinary power pulsing through their sermons. My grandfather, who was converted in the Welsh revival of 1904, told me that many of the ministers of Wales took on a new eloquence and power during the days of revival which quite astonished those who had hitherto listened to them. You may have heard some great preaching in your time, but believe me, it is nothing compared to what one hears when revival comes again.

Simple statements bristle with power; it is preaching from hearts set on fire.
