约翰福音十二37-49
37他虽然在他们面前行了许多神迹，他们还是不信他。
38这是要应验先知以赛亚的话，说：主阿，我们所传的有谁信呢？主的膀臂向谁显露呢？
39他们所以不能信，因为以赛亚又说：
40主叫他们瞎了眼，硬了心，免得他们眼睛看见，心里明白，回转过来，我就医治他们。
41以赛亚因为看见他的荣耀，就指着他说这话。
42虽然如此，官长中却有好些信他的，只因法利赛人的缘故，就不承认，恐怕被赶出会堂。
43这是因他们爱人的荣耀过于爱神的荣耀。
44耶稣大声说：信我的，不是信我，乃是信那差我来的。
45人看见我，就是看见那差我来的。46我到世上来，乃是光，叫凡信我的，不住在黑暗里。
47若有人听见我的话不遵守，我不审判他。我来本不是要审判世界，乃是要拯救世界。
48弃绝我、不领受我话的人，有审判他的─就是我所讲的道在末日要审判他。
49因为我没有凭着自己讲，惟有差我来的父已经给我命令，叫我说甚么，讲甚么。

在默想以赛亚书六章这最后的一天，让我们来看一些颇为令人惊讶的事情。约翰告诉我们，我们刚读完的这段以赛亚在圣殿见异象的经文，实际上是关于耶稣和祂荣耀的异象。约翰告诉我们隐藏在圣殿的黑暗和烟雾背后，有主的同在──与祂的一切荣耀同在。现在我想挑战你敞开自己，接受主荣耀的新异象。为甚么呢？因为只有当我们按着神的本性看见神，才能够按着自己的本性看见自己，这样，也只有这样，我们才得到装备出去服事别人。我们的神呼召我们服事祂，但祂也呼召我们要圣洁地服事。
我们今天有很多方面都和以赛亚的时代相似──充满混乱，充满冲突，充满不稳定。权力的平衡由一个国家转向另一个国家，每天报纸都报导不同的事情，令我们不禁想到接着还会发生甚么。我不知道未来几年地上的列国会遇到甚么事情，也不知道我们基督教会在世界各地的见证会怎么样。但我们确实知道主是主，祂是主宰，祂统领一切，祂高高在上，祂是圣洁和至尊的，在祂充足的光辉照耀下，我们一切的困难都显得微不足道。
我们需要一再提醒自己：没有其他神。列国的领袖可能在世界的舞台上高视阔步，但他们不是神，他们只是受造物，造物主可以轻易处置他们。让我们举目仰望永恒的宝座吧，并将注意力放在那里。我们的神正在掌权，祂是以圣洁掌权。

37 Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.
38 This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: "Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"[a]
39 For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40 "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn—and I would heal them."[b]
41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him.
42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;
43 for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
44 Then Jesus cried out, "Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.
45 The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.
46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
47 "If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.
49 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.
Message
On this, our final day of meditating on the sixth chapter of Isaiah, we look at something quite astonishing. John tells us in the passage we have just read that the vision Isaiah received that day in the Temple was really a vision of Jesus and His glory. John is telling us that hidden in the darkness and smoke of the Temple our Lord was present - and present in all His glory. Right now I want to challenge you to open yourself up to a new vision of the glory of the Lord. Why? Because it is only when we see God as He is that we can see ourselves as we are and then, and only then, are we equipped to move out and minister to others. Our God calls us to serve Him, but He calls us to serve Him in holiness.
We live in a day that is similar in many ways to that of Isaiah - times of great confusion, great strife and great uncertainty. The balance of power is shifting from one nation to another, and every day something appears in our newspapers that makes us wonder what will happen next. Personally, I do not know what the next few years are going to hold for the nations of the earth, or for our witness as the Christian Church around the world. But we do know that the Lord is Lord. He is sovereign. He rules over all. He is high and exalted. He is holy and supreme. And all our problems pale in the light of His sufficiency.
We need to remind ourselves over and over again - there are no other gods. The leaders of the nations may strut around on the world's stage but they are not gods - just creatures of whom the Creator can easily dispose. Lift up your eyes to the eternal throne - and keep them there. Our God reigns - but He reigns in holiness.

Prayer
Father, may the vision of Your glory that transformed Isaiah also transform me. Help me to walk through the earth with my gaze firmly fixed on You. Thank You for what You have taught me. To You be all the honour, all the glory and all the praise. Amen.
