经常有人说，安得烈是第一位本土宣教士，他带领兄弟彼得信基督；他也是第一位海外宣教士，最先带希腊人来见基督。知道这些讲希腊话的人为甚么接近安得烈，一定很有意思。是否安得烈顺道访问过他们并笑脸相待呢？是否他态度亲切，让人容易接近呢？无论如何，那些人一定是觉得安得烈不会拒人于千里；而他们最终也确是透过他得偿所愿，他们遇见了基督。

今天安得烈也应该是我们的榜样，尤其是在欢迎新朋友参加我们的崇拜聚会时。对许多人来说，第一次踏足教会，都会感觉到压力。除非有一、两个像安得烈的信徒，面带笑容，在门口亲切握手欢迎新朋友；否则，教会只会让人感到是一个不友善和孤独的地方。有人说，教会没有大小之分，却有充满爱心与缺乏爱心之分。你怎样形容你的教会呢？它需要甚么？你能满足它的需要吗？

安得烈知道耶稣乐于与这些人见面，不论他们的处境怎样，或有甚么问题。我们总是不太愿意跟有麻烦的人谈话，我们没有时间聆听他们。但安得烈和基督都这样做。有人说，安得烈是作司事的理想人选，他懂得如何接待新朋友。

安得烈后来可能在希腊的南部为基督殉道。他似乎到过不少地方传福音，当中包括西锡厄。按照教会传统的说法，他带领了一位希腊王后归向基督，因此令王大怒，命人将他钉十架。

安得烈甘于充当次要角色，却愿意随时服侍他所遇见、并终其一生热爱到底的主，他给我们树立了一个美好的榜样。

It has often been said that Andrew was the first home missionary bringing Peter to Christ and the first foreign missionary bringing these Greeks to Christ. It would be interesting to know why these Greek-speaking men approached Andrew. Did he look in their direction and smile? Did he make a friendly gesture or seem approachable? Whatever it was, the men felt Andrew would not turn them away. And through him, they met Christ which of course was what they really wanted to do.

He could be a model for us today, especially in welcoming strangers to our church services. Going to a church for the first time can be a threatening experience for many people. A church can be an unfriendly and lonely place unless there is an Andrew or two at the door with a welcoming smile and friendly handshake. Someone has said there are no large churches or small churches, only loving and unloving churches. How would you describe your church? What does it need? Could you help meet that need?

Andrew knew Jesus would want to meet these men, no matter what their situation or problem might be. We aren't always willing to talk with troubled souls. We don't have time to listen to them. But Andrew did and Christ did too. Someone has said Andrew would have made an ideal head usher. He would always know what to do with strangers.

Andrew finally gave his life for Christ, probably in Southern Greece. He seemed to have ministered in a number of countries including Scythia. Tradition says he led the wife of a Greek king to Christ, but that king was so enraged that he ordered Andrew's crucifixion.

Andrew left us a wonderful example of a man willing to take second place but always ready to serve the Lord he had met and loved through his long life
