我们怎么能不断获得确据？答案是相信神的话。昔日，你是抱着基督能救你的信念，来到基督的面前；如今，你就必须相信祂已经救了你。你若有「我已尽了我的本份，但神却没有做祂的工作」这种想法，就非常危险。罗马书十章13节怎么说？「凡求告主名的，就必得救。」你曾否真诚地求告主的名，求祂来救你？如果有的话，这节经文告诉你：基督已救了你。因此，这节经文对你来说，就像一张属灵生命的出生证书。

用另一个比喻来说，倘若你收到一张账单，是你早已缴付的，你会怎么做？你一定会找出收据，拿出书面证据证明你已缴费。同样地，圣经就是神的成文话语，你可以在它里面找到证据，证明你已得救。

此外，圣灵还会在我们的心中作见证。圣经是神给我们的见证，圣灵是神在我们心里的见证。罗马书八章16节说：「圣灵与我们的心同证我们是神的儿女。」祂证明我们已拥有新的生命，祂借着很多方法来向我们印证，祂帮助我们明白神的话语，并将神的话语应用到我们身上。例如，某位信徒经常为过去所做的事情，或是所受的试探而困扰。倘若他细心回想，便会发现在得救之前，他从来不会为这些事情而烦恼；现在是住在他心中的圣灵向他说话。

这便证明他的生命已经与从前不同。哥林多后书五章17节是一句至理名言：「若有人在基督里，他就是新造的人。」某些人的改变非常急剧；另一些人则循序渐进，但人们可以看到这种转变。这种改变可从我们的喜爱反映出来，例如，我们喜爱参加祈祷会，而那之前我们从未想过要去参加祈祷会。

借着相信神的话语、圣灵的见证，以及生命的改变，我们便知道我们已有得救的确据。这岂不是足够了吗？

How can we have continuing assurance? By believing God’s word. When you came to Christ you believed that Christ could save you. Now you must believe He has saved you. The danger is in thinking, “I did my part, but God hasn’t done His.” What does Romans 10:13 say? “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Have you in all sincerity call on Christ to save you? Then what does this verse say? When you call, Christ saves you. This one verse can be like a spiritual birth certificate for you.

Put it another way. If you were presented with an account which you knew you had already paid, what would you do? You would look for the receipt, the written proof that you had paid the account. Remember the Bible is God’s written proof to you that you have been saved.

Then there is God’s witness within our hearts by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is God’s witness to us. The Holy Spirit is His witness within us. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” He authenticates our new life. He does this in various ways. He helps us understand God’s Word. He applies it to our lives. For example, believers often are troubled about something they have done or been tempted to do. If they stop to think, they would realize that before they were saved, this problem never bothered them. Now that the Spirit is living within, He has spoken to them about it.

This leads on to the evidence of their life being changed. 2 Corinthians 5:17 is well known. “If anyone is in Christ, he/she is a new person.” For some people it is a dramatic change, for others it is progressive; regarding others notice the change. It can be seen in the change in our desires - we feel at home in a prayer meeting where we never would have thought of going before.

Our assurance comes from believing God’s Word, from the witness of the Spirit and the evidence of a changed life. Isn’t this enough?
