出埃及记：救赎之书
出埃及记一章1至7节
1以色列的众子，各带家眷，和雅各一同来到埃及。他们的名字记在下面。

4但、拿弗他利、迦得、亚设。
5凡从雅各而生的，共有七十人。约瑟已经在埃及。

出埃及记是一卷救赎和拯救之书。创世记讲述神的创造大能；而出埃及记所显示的，却是神拯救祂百姓的大能。
「出埃及记」是沿用古希腊文圣经所用的书名，该希腊字的原意是「出去」或「离去」，正好道出全书的主要内容，就是记述以色列人出埃及的经历。至于带领以色列人出埃及的领袖摩西，便是本书的作者。我们在这卷书里面，还可以看到许多有关基督的预表。
第5节告诉我们，雅各一家昔日共有70人一起到埃及定居，当中包括了早已在那里生活的约瑟和他的妻子及两个儿子。
神曾经分别应许亚伯拉罕，以撒及雅各，他们的后裔将如地上的尘沙那样多。神就是在埃及开始，以不可思议的方式来成就祂的应许。无论是在创世记四十七章27节，或是我们今天选读的经文(第7节)，都清楚表明以色列民的人口迅速加增。他们在埃及定居400年，人口由原先的70人繁衍至超过200万人。难怪埃及王会担心他们的势力过于强盛。
他们的后代为何能如此繁衍？因为神的恩手祝福他们。我们未必可以心事想成，拥有一切所想望的物质财富，然而，只要神的恩手在我们身上，万事都会为我们带来益处。我们可以信靠祂，因为祂必会把最好的给予我们。
神不会忘记祂的百姓，祂也不会忘记我们。让我们牢记祂的应许：「我永不离弃你。」

EXODUS - THE BOOK OF REDEMPTION
Exodus 1: 1 - 7
1 Now these are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt; each man and his household came with Jacob:
2 Reuben, Simemon, Levi, and Judah;
3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;
4 Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
5 All those who were descendants of Jacob were seventy persons (for Joseph was in Egypt already).
6 And Joseph died, all his brothers, and all that generation.
7 But the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.
Message
Exodus is a book of redemption and deliverance. Genesis tells of God's power in creation. In Exodus we see God's power on behalf of his people.
The word 'Exodus' means to go out and that tells us the main story of the book. There are also many wonderful pictures of Christ in this remarkable book, written down by Moses, the man who led the Israelites out of Egypt.
Notice what verse 5 in our reading tells us. The number of Jacob's family that went down into Egypt totalled 70, including Joseph, his wife and two sons, who were already there.
God had promised Abraham and later Isaac and Jacob that their children would be as many as the sand on the seashore. It was in Egypt that God began to fulfil that promise in a remarkable way. Both in Genesis 47:27 and again in our reading today (v.7) we are told that the numbers of Israelites increased very rapidly. They had large families and in the 400 years they were in Egypt they multiplied from 70 persons to over two million. No wonder the kind of Egypt finally became afraid of them.
Why was there such a big increase? Because God's hand of blessing was on them. We may not always have all the money or material things which we feel we would like, but if God's hand is on us, it will always be for our good and we can trust him to bless us in the way that is best for us.
God never forget his people nor will he forget us. Remember his promise, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you'.
