假如没有圣经，世界会变成怎样呢？我们的生活会缺少甚么？请你用心想一想。如果没有圣经，我们对神便没有准确的认识；不会知道基督降世的准确历史；也不懂得如何去寻找神；对来世也一无所知。

幸好我们今天拥有圣经，神借此来向我们启示祂自己。在接着的几天，我们将会一起检视圣经在这世界，以及在我们各人生命中的重要位置。圣经带给我们很多信息；不过，我们要紧记一句话：「神把圣经赐给我们，不仅是要加增我们的知识，更是要改变我们的生命。」此外，我们还要记着，要验证异端的方法很简单：它是否以圣经作为最高的权威？若不是，它就是异端了。

我们今天选读的经文，表明神乃自有永有，祂满有能力和智慧。第3节有两个简单的字，它们却包含了极为重要的真理，它们就是「神说」。我们的神是会说话的！在圣经第一本书的第一章，这两个字便重复出现了11次。全本圣经有超过二千次的地方，记述神向人说话。

假神和偶像是永远不会说话的。诗篇一一五篇直言它们「有口不能言，有眼却不能看，有耳却不能听」。我们的神会说话，因为祂是永活的神，所以能听、能看。而且，祂是一位慈爱和信实的神，所以祂会回应我们。祂不仅用说话来创造万物，今天还继续透过祂的话语和住在我们心里的圣灵向我们说话。神已经向我们说话，我们有没有聆听呢？

Can you imagine what the world would be like if we had no Bible? What would we not have? Stop and think. We would have no accurate knowledge of God Himself. We would have no authentic history of Christ’s coming. We would have no clear knowledge of how we could approach God, nor any certain knowledge of future life.

But we do have this remarkable book in which God reveals Himself. Over the next few days we will look together at the Bible and its place in our lives and in this world. It has many messages for us. However, let us remember what someone has said, “The Bible was not given merely to increase our knowledge, but to transform our lives.” Remember also that a test for every cult is simple - does it major on any other book beside the Bible? If so it is to be rejected.

The first verse of our reading today speaks of God’s eternal existence, His power and His wisdom. Then in verse 3, there are two words which form a brief statement, but contain a tremendous truth. The words are “God said”. Our God speaks! Eleven times in this first chapter of the first book in the Bible those words are repeated. Over 2000 times in the Bible it states that God spoke or a similar phrase is used.

False gods and idols are forever silent. Psalm 115 says, “they have mouths but they cannot speak, eyes but they cannot see, they have ears but they cannot hear.” Our God speaks and because He is a living God, He can hear and see. Because He is a loving, faithful God, He will answer us. He spoke at creation and He is still speaking through His Word and through His Holy Spirit in our hearts. He has spoken - are we listening?
