在我們結束對復興的默想前，最後一個必須提出來的重要問題是：我們在歷史的這一刻，對屬靈大覺醒的需要有多大？我認為這對大部分國家來說都是相當大的。如果復興是聖靈的特別行動，是由掌握主權的神賜給教會的，那麼神最可能在甚麼時候顯出這種特別的作為？不是在有特別需要的時候嗎？我認為我們現在就是處於這樣的時代。如果說我對當代基督教有甚麼瞭解的話，那就是我確信目前眾教會對復興的需要不但大，而且是燃眉之急。

以傳福音這事為例，教會就算付出了所有的努力，都只能接觸到社會很少部分的人，這應該是我們最當關注的問題。已經信主的人應該清楚的意識到還有很多人沒有接觸過福音。我們付出很大的努力，花費很多的金錢在佈道事工上，這是正確的，但可惜結果卻與我們內心的期盼有很大距離。當然，我們會為那些願意接受基督的人獻上感恩，但與人口相比，這些數字只不過是滄海一粟，這實在是我們應該加以關注的事實。

復興會改變這一切。雖然正如我們所看到的，復興和佈道不同，但是你可以肯定，當復興來臨時，未信的人會湧進教堂，他們不是因人的勸說而來，他們是被天堂的磁力所吸引。

An important and final question which we must look at before we close our meditations on revival is this: How great is our need at this moment in history for a great spiritual awakening? I would say that in most countries of the world it is very great. If revival is an extraordinary movement of the Holy Spirit bestowed upon the Church by a sovereign God, then when is God most likely to demonstrate this extraordinary work? Is it not at a time of extraordinary need? Such a time, I suggest, is upon us now. If I understand contemporary Christianity at all, then it is my conviction that the need for revival is not only great but urgent and desperate.

Take, for example, the issue of evangelism. It should be a matter of the deepest concern that with all its evangelistic efforts the Church is only touching a small proportion of the community. The fact that some are being converted should not obscure the fact that great masses of people remain unreached. We expend great effort and spend large sums of money on evangelistic crusades, which is right, but the results are rarely what deep down in our hearts we long for. We are thankful, of course, for those who are being won to Christ but surely it must concern us that in proportion to the population the results are but a drop in a bucket.

Revival would change all that. Although revival, as we saw, is different from evangelism, you can be sure that when revival comes the unconverted will crowd into the churches, drawn not by human persuasion but by the magnetism of heaven.
